A retiree from Mornington Peninsula is ‘hopping mad’ after invasive rabbits caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to his property.
Colin Fitches has spent $20,000 trying to fence them out, without success, and had to replace a $3,000 water tank that was undermined by rabbits. The damage to his garden, the loss of fruit, and the personal cost of dealing with various government agencies has not been priced.
It is a reminder that rabbits can quickly assume ‘plague’ proportions and are not a problem only for rural areas.
